Iron Man, the pseudonym for Tony Stark
Tony Stark is a businessman, CEO of Stark Industries, and man behind the Iron Man persona. He is the son of Howard and Maria Stark, and was born in Long Island, NY. He entered the engineering field and the weapons manufacturing business after attending MIT at age 15. After being captured by a terrorist group in the Middle East during a weapons test and demonstration, Tony was gravely injured due to srhrapnel from an explosion entering his chest. In captivity, a magnet is used to keep the shrapnel from entering his heart. He constructs an weaponized armored suit to escape, and develops a powerful "arc reactor" power source to continue powering the electromagnet keeping him alive due to complications in removing the shrapnel. After escaping, he largely ceases producing weapons and instead focuses on revisions of the "Iron Man" suit.
